About BUU

Beijing Union University (BUU) was established upon the approval of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China in 1985 and is a comprehensive municipal university of Beijing. It originated from 36 branch campuses attached to prestigious institutions like Peking University and Tsinghua University.

BUU takes its primary goal to cultivate high-quality practical talents to fulfill municipal as well as national demands in social and economic development. For more than 40 years, BUU has shown continuous improvement in its facilities, teaching quality and its talent-cultivating system. Under this system, numerous disciplines support one another through coordinated development, including economics, management, liberal arts, law, science, engineering, pedagogy, history, and medicine.

Currently, BUU is one of the largest universities in Beijing, concentrating on undergraduate programs while also promoting coordinated development of postgraduate studies, vocational higher education, continuing education and international education.

Beijing Union University is located next to the North 4th Ring Road, Chaoyang District, Beijing - a geographically advantageous site. The university, covering an area of about 600,000 square meters, has a library housing more than 2.4 million books. It has 1,600 full-time teachers and 18,000 full-time students, including more than 16,000 undergraduates.

(3) Accommodation

Double room: RMB50/day/student (room area: 20 square meters)

(4) Insurance

According to relevant regulations of the Ministry of Education, the international students who are going to study for more than six months must purchase Comprehensive Insurance & Protection Scheme for Foreigners Staying in China. The cost is RMB400 / year, or RMB200/half a year.

Scholarships

Under the authorization of Beijing municipal government, Beijing Union University offers a variety of scholarships for international students, including Beijing Government Scholarship (BGS) and the “Belt and Road” Scholarship. The scholarship can cover all or part of tuition, living costs, accommodation fees and insurance, etc. All programs of Beijing Union University are supported by scholarships, and the proportion of students receiving scholarships is as high as 90% every year.

International students can apply for Beijing Government Scholarship (BGS), “Belt and Road” Scholarship and BUU President Scholarship at the Beijing Union University.

 

Application Deadline

The postgraduate programs are open for application from November 1 to July 10 of the following year.


Application requirements and materials for international students in China

1. Application requirements

(1) The applicant must be a citizen of foreign nationality and in good health. The applicant should hold a valid foreign passport and abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and the rules and regulations of the school.

(2) The applicant seeking a master’s degree must have bachelor’s degree.

(3) The academic performance, academic level and language ability of the applicant must meet the admission requirements of the target program. The student applying for the program taught in Chinese must submit the original or photocopy of HSK; HSK5 certificate is needed for the postgraduate application; For those who apply for the programs taught in English and whose native language is not English, they are required to submit TOEFL score of 70 on computer-based test or IELTS score of 5, or other evidence of English language proficiency.

(4) The applicants must have no criminal behavior or bad credit record in China. BUU requires a guarantee of financial resources and a guarantor in China from each applicant.

2. Application materials

(1) Application Form for International Students of Beijing Union University;

(2) Resume (to be updated to the latest date);

(3) The certificates and the verification reports of the highest academic credentials and academic transcripts;

(4) A copy of passport (within the validity period);

(5) Physical Examination Records for Foreigners (within 6 months);

(6) Language proficiency certificate;

(7) Transfer students must submit transfer certificate and academic transcripts;

(8) Applicants for graduate studies need two letters of recommendation from associate professors or experts or scholars with equivalent title or above.


Admission Confirmation

Once the admission is confirmed, advanced payment of tuition fee should be paid in time. Applicants can pay in cash personally at the college or pay through transferred bank accounts. After receiving the prepayment, the international Recruitment Office will prepare for students the Letter of Acceptance and the Visa Application Form (JW202 Form) and other documents which will be sent to the address specified in the application before school opens. If applicants prefer to pick up the admission documents in college, they should mark it out in the application. No application documents can be returned.

Having received the admission documents, applicants can go to the Chinese Embassy or Beijing Exit and Entry Administration Office of Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau for student visa (Students should keep the original JW202 and Letter of Acceptance for college registration and apply for visa with the photocopied one). Please come to BUU to register, sign up, get insurance and pay the total tuition fee according to the dates on your Letter of Acceptance.

 

Registration

The admitted students need to go through the registration procedures within the period designated in the Letter of Acceptance. If students indeed cannot register on time for special reasons, a formal written request is needed at least one week before registration date. Registration can be postponed with the approval.

Registration Procedures:

① Present your Passport, Letter of Acceptance, JW202 Form and receipts or Bank’s remittance bill for the application fee and the advanced payment of the tuition; purchase health insurance;

② Pay tuition of either one semester or one year;

③ Apply for visa and residence permit;

④ Students who live off the campus should present Temporary Residence Certificate;

⑤ At the beginning of semester, you have an orientation guidance and a placement test;

⑥ Students who hold X visas should have the Medical Certificate.
