Protecting Beijing’s Cultural Heritage tops the agenda at international conference

National and international experts gathered in Beijing in November to discuss the future of the capital’s cultural heritage, its protection and its promotion.

Jointly sponsored by Beijing Union University and the Chinese Academy of Cultural Heritage, and held at the Beijing International Convention Center, the theme of the conference was ‘Cultural Heritage Protection, Exchanges and Mutual Learning among Civilizations’.

One of the main topics was the integration of cultural tourism and talent cultivation, which aims to vigorously promote the prosperity and progress of establishing Beijing as a national cultural center.

Chu Guoqing, Secretary of the Party Committee of BUU, said that as the only municipal university in Beijing with the most complete disciplines and majors in the key fields of cultural heritage protection and inheritance, BUU has always adhered to the fine tradition of ‘taking root in Beijing, researching Beijing, and serving Beijing’.

Over the years, BUU has been concentrating on research in fields such as archaeology and the exploration of the origin of human civilization, and cultural heritage management, and has achieved fruitful scientific research and practical results. BUU will give full play to its own disciplinary advantages and human resources to contribute more wisdom and power to the protection and development of cultural heritage.

At the opening ceremony, BUU’s substantial achievements in the fields of serving the construction of Beijing as a national cultural center, cultural exchanges, cultural heritage protection, rural tourism, the cultivation of intangible cultural heritage talents, and decision-making consultation were released.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Italy. In order to follow and implement the consensual spirit of cultural cooperation and exchanges between China and Italy, Beijing Union University has officially signed the Cooperative Framework Agreement for the Sino-Italian Cultural Heritage Research Center with Roma Tre University in Italy. The two sides will carry out a series of scientific research cooperation in the fields of cultural heritage, archaeology and so on.

In the keynote speech session, top experts from both China and abroad shared their latest research achievements and practical experiences around the inheritance and development of cultural heritage.
