Congratulations also go to Katherine Perry, from the Crickhowell Confucius Classroom in Wales, affiliated with BUU’s Confucius Institute in the United Kingdom, who has advanced to the national final of the 2026 Chinese Proficiency Competition for UK secondary school students.

The competition, now in its fifth year in the UK, includes an online preliminary round and an in-person national final. Students from across the country took part this year, with only 15 selected for the final round.

With guidance from volunteer teacher Chen Xinlei, Ketherine stood out for her solid Chinese-language foundation, fluent expression and understanding of Chinese culture.

At the final, students shared the stage with peers from around the UK, presenting themed speeches and talent performances. The event offered participants not only a competition platform, but also a chance to build confidence, improve practical language skills and deepen cross-cultural understanding.

BUU's Confucius Institute in the UK will continue to strengthen Chinese language teaching, expand cultural activities and encourage more young learners to take part in high-level language competitions.
