Ensuring BUU is a high-level applied university, focused on cultivating morality and talents, was at the heart of the Discipline construction, Science and Technology conference held over two days in March.

The 20th National Congress of as well as the school's "14th Five Year Plan" period and future five-year development plan informed the gathering which saw leaders from the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, and school leaders attend the conference.

The Secretary of the School Party Committee, Chu Guoqing, said that it was necessary to closely connect with the rapid development of the school and consolidate the implementation of various tasks proposed by the National Congress. “We are focusing on the high-quality development and core tasks of the school,” he said, “and continuously promoting construction and its role in the ‘Four Centers’ in Beijing. We will promote research on key core technologies and issues urgently needed by the country and Beijing, strive to provide education that satisfies the people, and accelerate the construction of high-level applied universities.”

President Guo Fu gave a comprehensive review of the school's construction and scientific and technological work over the past five years. “We need to do a good job in innovative scientific research, and to consider ways to further improve the quality of our work in the future,” he said. “Let’s also enhance our enthusiasm and initiative to focus on these vital projects.”

Li Yong, a researcher from the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, delivered a speech on behalf of Liu Chang'an, Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Education Commission. He pointed out that the disciplinary characteristics of BUU are increasingly prominent, and the overall scientific research strength has been significantly enhanced. “Always remember our responsibility and mission of serving Beijing and its citizens and promote the school's development to a new level with the best standards,” he said.

Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Science and Technology Xu Xinchao, affirmed the top-level planning and deployment made by Beijing Union University (BUU) in the construction and technological development of the university for the next five years. “BUU leverages its advantages and improves its independent innovation ability, which is a manifestation of its determination and ability to actively serve the development of the capital,” he said.

At the opening ceremony, Wang Aijun, Deputy Secretary of the School Party Committee, presented the ‘Outstanding Contribution Award for Science and Technology Innovation’ to teachers and teams who have made excellent contributions to the school's work.

On the morning of March 11th, various teaching and research units organized exchanges and discussions on the schools’discipline construction and scientific and technological work.

At the closing ceremony on the afternoon of the 11th, representatives of the school's discipline construction and scientific research work made exchange speeches.

The conference had 10 venues, divided into four stages: the opening ceremony of the conference, the organization of scientific and technological work seminars and studies by each college, the closing ceremony of the conference, and the academic activity month after the conference.
