On July 27, the first “Forum on Sustainable Development of Urban Rail Transit”, co-organized by Beijing Union University, Beijing Jiaotong University and Russian University of Transport (RUT/ MIIT), was successfully held at Russian University of Transport (RUT/ MIIT). Yang Bin, Vice Mayor of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, attended the forum and delivered a speech.

Vice Mayor Yang Bin pointed out that China and Russia are strategic partners with deep friendship. 2018 and 2019 are the China-Russia Years of Local Cooperation, which will give the two countries a new breakthrough in cooperation in rail transportation, energy, environmental protection, and other fields. As Beijing and Moscow are the capitals of two countries, they are also sister cities and cosmopolitan cities. It is necessary for the two cities to work together to study the “big city problem” in the field of transportation and design future development directions. He hoped that both sides would seize the opportunity to cooperate actively, enhance mutual understanding, seek consensus, and strive to reach mutually beneficial cooperation results.

The inauguration ceremony of the Forum on Sustainable Development of Urban Rail Transport was held in the presence of Vice Mayor Yang Bin. The two parties agreed to hold the second Forum on Sustainable Development of Urban Rail Transit in Beijing in 2019, so as to deepen their strategic engagement in rail transit development and make new contributions to the cooperation between Russia and China.

At the forum, experts discussed in depth on the topics of assurance of circulation of modern urban rail transportation, problems and prospects for urban ecology and inter-transit development, education development in transportation field and talent training strategy for urban transportation complex. President Li Xuewei presented a theoretical analysis and safety model construction on the safe operation of rail transit with the topic of “Safety Theory and Model of Urban Rail Transit”, suggesting the use of big data to help the development of rail transit in the capital cities.

The “Beijing Day in Moscow” is jointly launched by the Beijing Municipal Government and the Moscow Municipal Government to enhance people-to-people communication and friendship between the two cities. The first “Forum on the Sustainable Development of Urban Rail Transit” is one of the important activities of the "“Beijing Day in Moscow”, which aims to provide a platform for mutual learning and cooperation between Beijing and Moscow in the field of urban rail transit.
