On December 9, the Third International Conference on Health and Environment was held in BUU with the theme of “Human Health and Environmental Harmony”. 11 renowned experts from the US, Japan, Brazil, Malaysia, Hong Kong SAR and more than 10 universities in the Mainland China were invited to give keynote speeches at the conference, discussing topical research issues affecting “human health and environmental harmony”; and over 140 teachers and students from the College of Health and Environment (College of Biochemical Engineering) were present. Yang Renquan, Member of Leading Party Members' Group and Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Science &Technology Commission, Xu Xinchao, Director of the Double Innovation Division of the Beijing Municipal Science &Technology Commission, and Han Xianzhou, Secretary of the CPC Committee of BUU, attended the opening ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by Professor Zhang Enxiang, Dean of the College of Health and Environment (College of Biochemical Engineering).

In recent years, the College of Health and Environment of BUU focuses on the health and environmental industries in the Beijing,Tianjin and Hebei with Beijing’s urban construction goals of being a “Healthy, Harmonious and Livable City” as a concentration, actively fulfills its social responsibilities as an universities, and carries out research and international exchange and cooperation in science and technology innovation in areas related to the health and environment industry. The college has built the “Beijiing Key Laboratory of Bioactive Substances and Functional Foods” in 2001, the “Beijing Key Laboratory of Biomass Waste Resource Utilization” in 2014, and the “Beijing International Science and Technology Cooperation Base for Biomass Waste Resource Treatment Technology " in 2018; it also has the Health Food Function Testing Centre, a technical institution for the verification and evaluation of special food products, which is on record with the State Food and Drug Administration.

Since 2016, the College of Health and Environment has held many international academic exchange conferences on health and environment, aiming to build an exchange platform for domestic and foreign experts and scholars in the field of health and environment, to give full play to the function of “Beijing International Science and Technology Cooperation Base for Biomass Waste Resource Treatment Technology”, and to promote domestic and foreign cooperative study in health and environment.
